CHEMTURA INTRODUCES FIREMASTER® 800 FLAME RETARDANT AT CHINAPLAS.

(21st May 2007) Chemtura Corporation (NYSE:CEM) launches Firemaster® 800, a new flame retardant for flexible polyurethane foam that delivers 20% higher efficiency than the previous generation of Firemaster® 550 products.

Firemaster® 800 is a cost-effective alternative to chlorinated phosphate flame retardants. It enables manufacturers to achieve superior foam properties, whilst using less additive in their formulations. Foams using Firemaster® 800 demonstrate increased product protection and outstanding resistance to scorch and thermal degradation.

Firemaster® 800 is a new option for Chinese furniture and polyurethane foam and manufacturers, who export to North America and Europe, where their products must meet U.S. (California 117) or British standards for flame retardant properties.

“Tragedies such as the deadly 2003 “Station” nightclub fire in Rhode Island, USA, have increased the demand for flame retardant in polyurethane foam,” says Richard Rose, Marketing Manager for Chemtura Flame Retardants. “France is moving toward raising its standards for upholstered furniture; so are U.S. states such as Illinois. The trend is toward tougher regulation in China’s growing American and European markets.
