Husky develops ‘best-in-class’ DVD packaging solution
High-speed system improves economics of injection molded cases by 10%
DUSSELDORF - Husky has entered the DVD packaging market with a complete solution designed to greatly improve the economics of injection molding DVD cases.
Husky has partnered with Swiss mold-maker AWM and German automation specialist Ilsemann Automation (Suhling Technik) to develop a demonstration system that molds eight 63-gram DVD boxes every six seconds. At 95% system efficiency, the Husky system improves the economics of DVD box molding by 10%.
“We see great potential in the media-packaging marketplace over the next five years,” Bruce Catoen, Husky’s Vice President, Packaging, said. “After talking to our customer base, we determined the key drivers of DVD case molding are part quality, faster cycles, lightweighting, higher cavitation and ease of maintenance. We’re confident we’re addressing these needs, and feel we’ve developed a best-in-class DVD packaging solution.”
In addition to the faster cycles and lighter parts, the Husky system improves ease of maintenance. Husky’s machine-based stack mold carrier allows for full-stroke servicing. All water and air connections have been optimized to improve access and reduce hoses. And, the Husky back-to-back valve gate hot runner system allows for hassle-free maintenance in the press, eliminating the need to remove the mold. This means less downtime for routine maintenance.
The system is currently available for demonstrations at Husky’s Advanced Manufacturing Center, in Bolton, Ontario, Canada.
