QUADRANT ENGINEERING PLASTIC PRODUCTS’ MATERIALS DELIVER LIGHT-WEIGHT PERFORMANCE TO LIFE OPTICS’ HEAD-MOUNTED SURGICALVISION SYSTEM

TIELT, BELGIUM – K 2004 – When Life Optics needed a lightweight but durable engineered plastic machined component to replace the aluminum parts in its head-mounted surgical vision system, Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products (QEPP) provided multiple material solutions to meet Life Optics’ high-performance specifications. QEPP’s stock shapes provide unique benefit in terms of lightweight strength and stiffness as well as excellent resistance to chemicals and wear to Life Optic’s high-end M5 surgical Varioscope.

Also, our line of finished and semi-finished shapes can be machined to very tight tolerances.”

QEPP’s TECHTRON HPV PPS, KETRON PEEK-1000, and KETRON PEEK-HPV provided high stiffness and dimensional stability to different parts of Life Optics’s headset. Quadrant’s HPV materials delivered low abrasion, sliding friction, and dimensional stability to the M5 headset’s sliding and rotating elements, such as its lens aperture.

Life Optics selected TECHTRON HPV PPS material to provide excellent dimensional stability for its headset’s mountings and frames. For sections of the surgical headset that demanded good surface characteristics, such as the outside glass adapter, Life Optics specified QEPP’s Ertalyte material.

All of QEPP’s materials applied in Life Optics’ headset were specified to be colored black in order to minimize reflected light. However, QEPP can provide shapes in other colors on request.
