Trespa Meteon for spectacular Torres Centro project in Oviedo

A series of 11 tower blocks is helping to transform the look of the green belt in Oviedo, Spain. Situated along two main streets, these 11 separate buildings together form a colourful spectacle, created by the application of 17.000 m2 rock structured Meteon façade cladding panels produced by Trespa International.

The architects, Salvador Perez Arroyo and Luis V. de Gonzaga, specified Trespa Meteon panels in a wide range of colours, with a metallic finish: each building is a stunning combination of three colours. However, if looked at together, the whole project is even more impressive, creating a colourful movement as one passes them on foot or by car. The colours, metallic effect and the mineral texture all contribute to a constantly changing play of light and dark – depending on the moment in the day and the time of the year.

Oviedo is situated in Asturias, Northern Spain, a region that has a relatively damp climate – with an average annual rainfall and climatic conditions close to that of Northern European countries. It is for this reason that the architects chose to protect the buildings by means of ventilated rainscreen cladding, using the advanced TS-200 system that meets the relevant Spanish DIT 327 standard. With ventilated rainscreen cladding, the outside of the building is covered with a “breathing” outer coat of Trespa Meteon panels with invisible mechanical fixing on a specially designed framework of aluminium. The cladding makes a significant contribution to the building’s damp control, whilst at the same time providing improved thermal insulation.

Trespa Meteon panels consist of 70% softwood fibres, strengthened by resin. Traditionally, it is a flat panel, however it can be formed to meet specific demands of an application, such as wrap-around corners. To meet the requirements of this particular design, a special solution was developed by Trespa to create Trespa Meteon corner elements with a radius of 800 mm.

Trespa Meteon is available in a wide range of colours, effects and structures – either as standard or custom-made. The panels are extremely weather resistant. Sun, rain (even acid rain) and moisture do not affect the surface or the core. Trespa METEON panelling is also resistant to the UV radiation in sunlight.

Trespa Meteon panels will retain their original colours for many years. Easy to combine with other Meteon products and/or other building materials, Meteon panels are guaranteed weatherproof – resistant to UV radiation, colourfast and impact resistant.
