PolyOne Expands Reach in China with Third Color Development Center to Serve Customers in Northern China and Korea

SHANGHAI, China (April 17, 2008) – PolyOne Corporation’s (NYSE: POL) third color development center in China, located in the city of Tianjin, opened in late February 2008. PolyOne also has state-of-the- art color development centers in Shanghai and Shenzhen.

PolyOne is exhibiting in Hall W3 Stand D21at Chinaplas 2008 April 17-20 in Shanghai. The trade show for the rubber and plastics industries is being held at the New International Expo Centre.

The Tianjin color development center is being used to develop new color and additive solutions that meet customer-specific needs, in addition to facilitating faster, more efficient new product introductions in North China and Korea. PolyOne's customers are able to capitalize on the center's advanced technology to develop color solutions for new markets and applications.

"This latest color development center exemplifies PolyOne's commitment to deliver specialized services and solutions that create value for customers by helping them bridge the gap between concept and production," said Dr. Willie Chien, vice president and general manager of Color and Engineered Materials - Asia. "PolyOne is able to provide an advantage to customers that goes far beyond simply matching colors and providing products."

Through the resources of this color development center, PolyOne assists customers with understanding both color and polymer technology in an environment that stimulates creativity, innovation and speed. Prototyping on production-like machines enables customers to develop unique products quickly and efficiently to serve fast-growing industries such as food and beverage packaging, cosmetics and personal care packaging, and wire and cable.

The new PolyOne technologies are Gravi-Tech™ polymer-metal composites, a high-performance alternative to lead and traditional metals in many non-traditional thermoplastic applications, and Therma-Tech™ thermal management compounds, which combine the heat transfer and cooling capabilities of metals with the design freedom, weight reduction and cost advantages of thermoplastics.

“PolyOne’s Specialty Engineered Materials business supplies high-performance polymer compounds for challenging applications,” said Soon Cher Seah, general manager, Asia Engineered Materials. “We focus on offering our customers innovative compound solutions that excel in performance and value. Gravi-Tech and Therma-Tech offer designers more choice and freedom.”

With a variety of metallic fillers, Gravi-Tech high-density compounds mimic the look and feel of lead and other metals, yet offer the design flexibility and processing ease of thermoplastics. Among the benefits offered by these polymer-metal composites are:

•Customizable densities up to 11 gm/cm3

•High-yield strength

•Thin-wall injection capability

•FDA-compliant grades suitable for food, drug and cosmetics packaging

PolyOne’s Therma-Tech thermal management compounds provide the benefits of proprietary conductive additive technologies and the performance of select engineering thermoplastic resins. Therma-Tech compounds have been shown to improve thermal conductivity 50 to 100 times above the level of conventional plastics, and can be used in a wide range of thermal management applications.

Primary benefits of Therma-Tech compounds compared with fabricated metal include:

•Low coefficient of thermal expansion

•Reduced weight

•Lower cost compared with machined components and lower shipping cost

•Inherent corrosion/oxidation resistance

•Design flexibility, more complex shapes

•Part consolidation, reduced assembly costs

Gravi-Tech and Therma-Tech are the newest members of an engineered compounds portfolio that PolyOne began introducing in China in 1998. This portfolio includes:

•MaxxamTM polyolefin compounds

•NymaxTM and BergamidTM polyamide compounds

•EdgetekTM engineered thermoplastic compounds

•BergadurTM polyester compounds

•LubriOneTM wear-resistant compounds

•Stat-TechTM static dissipative and conductive compounds
