QUADRANT CREATIVE MOULDING & SYSTEMS DEVELOPS INJECTION MOULDING TECHNOLOGY FOR ERTALYTE TX MATERIAL

TIELT, BELGIUM – K 2004 – Quadrant Creative Moulding & Systems (QCMS) has developed technology to injection mould Ertalyte TX PET-P. This new commercial capability enables Quadrant to offer its customers Ertalyte TX products in large cost effective series and more flexible designs.

Previously, Ertalyte TX was limited to extrusion processes by its very high viscosity. The material offers high dimensional stability, wear resistance, and low-friction characteristics. This allowed Ertalyte TX stock shapes to be easily machined to fit application tolerances, but it limited parts made from material to short series and specific shapes.

Now, applying controlled heat and pressure in proprietary processes, QCMS has enabled Ertalyte TX parts to be injection moulded, opening better economies for large series and more options for complex shapes and designs.

“The ability to injection mould Ertalyte TX could potentially double the uses for the material,” said Fernand Vandaele, CEO of QCMS. “Among the potential new applications are medical devices that would benefit from Ertalyte’s unique performance properties.”

Ertalyte TX is a proprietary unreinforced semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyester (PET-P) formulation with a solid lubricant filler. Its combination of strength and stiffness, high wear-resistance, very good dimensional stability, high creep resistance and very good chemical resistance makes it ideal for machining bushings and bearings that require no startup or running lubrication. The material also provides sustained performance under both high-pressure and high-velocity conditions, and is ideally suited for applications involving soft metal and plastic mating surfaces.

Ertalyte TX has FDA compliance and is therefore also well-suited for applications in food packaging and processing equipment.
