Innovative Sanitized® BroadTect product durably protects polymers against a wide range of microorganisms
Burgdorf, February 18, 2021: Polymers can be protected against all relevant microorganisms with just a single antimicrobial product: Protection against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, mold and mildew, yeasts, and even algae. This newly developed product by SANITIZED AG has high temperature resistance and is suitable for thermoplastic processing methods such as extrusion processes or injection molding. The new Sanitized® product from the BroadTect portfolio features durable antimicrobial protection that is effective even after weathering. In addition, good antiviral efficacy on surfaces has been demonstrated.
Normally, each antimicrobial active ingredient has a specific and limited spectrum of efficacy. In a comprehensive series of tests, the developers of SANITIZED have managed to combine specially selected active substances in a way that synergically complements their spectra of efficacy. The result is a product that delivers comprehensive, durable antimicrobial protection from bacteria, mildew and mold, yeast, and algae.
Temperature-resistant and versatile
This temperature-resistant, antimicrobial product is suitable for most thermoplastic polymers such as PE, PP, TPU, EVA, PVC, rubber (EPDM, NBR, SBR) that are used in the extrusion process or in injection molding. It is compatible with commonly used additives, making it usable for an abundance of applications.
Material protection, stain prevention, odor reduction
Protecting polymers from microbes means simultaneously ensuring both hygiene management and material protection. As demonstrated in various series of tests, the new product guarantees protective action against microbial aggressors—even with ongoing washing and weathering. It is particularly beneficial for kitchen utensils, containers, filters, seals, packaging, or tarpaulins.
Increased sensitivity boosts demand
The coronavirus pandemic has significantly increased the importance of hygiene in public spaces, which is why Christine Niklas, Product Manager at SANITIZED AG, sees a large market for the new product with wide-ranging antimicrobial protection. Treated polymer handles, switches, seats, handrails, floors, or sanitary utensils can help create safe conditions, particularly in public spaces, in public transportation, or in schools.
“With the new product for polymers, we offer the polymer industry an innovative, versatile, multi-protection product that ensures comprehensive, durable antimicrobial protection from any microorganisms. Surfaces are hygienically protected and treated against material deterioration, preventing odor emissions and stain formation,” summarizes Christine Niklas.
As with all Sanitized® products, the company offers accompanying consultation with product development and performance tests. Furthermore, using the Sanitized® ingredient brand when promoting the final polymer product and in the accompanying marketing activities can highlight the antimicrobial properties in an eye-catching and differentiating manner.
