Husky and Hekuma partner to offer compact IML solution
High-speed robot within machine gates to save floorspace, improve label accuracy
DUSSELDORF - Husky and Hekuma have introduced a new in-mold labeling solution that uses less floorspace and provides superior label placement compared to conventional IML systems. The compact Husky-Hekuma system features a high-speed labeling robot placed within the machine’s gates, which is unique when compared to other systems on the market.
“By aligning the robot with the mold on the same platen, label placement becomes much more accurate,” Bruce Catoen, Husky’s Vice President, Packaging, said. “This is especially important for high-quality decoration for applications such as promotional packaging.”
The system also features separate labeling and part-removal automation. Husky’s SwingChutes remove parts from the mold cores and release them into a drop chute, with zero mold open time. Part orientation is also maintained for stacking. Hekuma’s patented push-and-wind label picking and placement mechanism, meanwhile, provides highly accurate label placement for round, square-round and oval containers.
“This compact system is suitable for the requirements of several markets,” Hekuma CEO Dr. Lothar Bakowsky said. “It allows great flexibility, and is ideal for both experienced packaging processors and those involved with in-mold labeling for the first time. The complete system can be delivered to a customer with no additional installations required.”
The Husky-Hekuma compact IML system is on display during K 2004 at the Husky exhibit.
