Vyncolit

Sumitomo Bakelite is the world’s largest producer of phenolic molding compounds and one of the leading global developers and producers of specialty phenolic resins. The Vyncolit group, a market leader in engineering phenolics, was acquired by Sumitomo Bakelite in 2005. Shortly after, Vyncolit North America was re-named Sumitomo Bakelite North America, while Vyncolit N.V. continued under its existing name. Based on phenolic resins and utilizing a variety of reinforcing fibers and mineral fibers, Vyncolit compounds are characterized by their heat resistance, strength and dimensional stability delivering reproducible, high-tolerance parts. This makes them the materials of choice for replacing metal and thermoplastics in a broad range of demanding high-tech applications.

Acquisition of Vyncolit by Sumitomo Bakelite strengthens world-market presence of engineering phenolics

The acquisition by Sumitomo Bakelite Co. Ltd. of Vyncolit N.V. and Vyncolit North America Inc., brings together the complementary resources and skills of two accomplished leaders in the engineering phenolics market. Sumitomo Bakelite is the world’s largest producer of phenolic moulding compounds and one of the leading global developers and producers of specialty phenolic resins. Vyncolit, with its broad product line, is pre-eminent in the development of high-tech applications based on engineering phenolics, with a special focus on automotive components.

Vyncolit introduces the next generation of mouldable carbon fibre composites

Currently being trialled in a number of applications, Vyntec carbon fibre composite will be launched commercially at K 2004, Dusseldorf, 20-27 October 2004, and will be a highlighted feature of Vyncolit’s materials presentation on Stand G39, Hall 05. Vyncolit N.V., a market leader in engineering phenolics, has announced the development of Vyntec, a phenolic-based carbon fibre reinforced composite that sets a new industry standard for material performance in metal replacement applications.

Vyncolit - a world-class leader in phenolic material solutions

Mark IV Systèmes Moteur S.A. (France) has developed the water pump for the EW motors of PSA group which is used, for example, on the Peugeot 406, Citroën Xantia and Citroën Xsara Picasso. The housing of the waterpump is made from Vyncolit® X7010, an engineering mouldable phenolic composite offering high mechanical strength and creep resistance. It is able to withstand the severe side load caused by the belt tension and the comprehensive load generated by bolting directly (without metal inserts!) to the engine block. Vyncolit, a market leader in engineering thermosets, is the principal company within, the engineering materials division of the Perstorp Group, the Swedish supply major in specialty chemicals.

For its part in the development of a unique intake manifold for the new eight-cylinder 7 series BMW(735i;745i), Vyncolit N.V., a market leader in mouldable phenolic composites (engineering phenolics), has received the 2002 Innovation Award from AVK-TV, the German Composite Federation.

Acquisition gives Vyncolit an increased presence in USA

The Temperature Regulator Module (called BSE in French) is a complex device that distributes and controls the coolant fluid for the DW motors of the PSA Group. It integrates the thermostat, temperature sensor and the warming up circuit for the diesel oil. It is used, amongst others, for the new HDI engine of the Peugeot 607. Vyncolit X7010 was selected by Mark IV Systèmes Moteur S.A. (France) as the material of choice for the housing of the Temperature Regulator Module because the use of engineering mouldable phenolic composite allows the production of this part of more than 1kg by injection processing. The Perstorp Group has announced its purchase of the Moldable Composites Division of Rogers Corporation, a US-based producer of high performance mouldable phenolic composites principally supplied to the automotive and electrical industries. The Moldable Composites Division has annual sales of approximately USD 35 million and about 150 employees.
